TRIP TO SPRINGFIELD, MO

”234x60Banner”

“Fresh Grounded Faith”

2013 Fall Conference
Several ladies have expressed the desire for our group to attend a conference this fall in lieu of a retreat. We are very pleased to announce that arrangements have been made for the Joy Women’s Ministry to attend the Jennifer Rothschild “Fresh Grounded Faith” conference in Springfield, Missouri on November 8th and 9th.

We have chartered a bus for this event and the drive to Springfield and back will be a time of sweet fellowship for our ladies. Our plans are to leave from the church at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 8th and return the evening of Saturday, November 9th.

The cost of the conference will depend on how many people you have staying in your room and the cost is as follows:

PLAN ‘A’ – four (4) people sharing a room (two queen sized beds) - $95 each.
PLAN ‘B’ – three (3) people to a room (two queen sized beds) - $105 each.
PLAN ‘C’ – two (2) people to a room (two queen sized beds) - $120 each.

You will also need to bring money for lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast is included at the hotel. We will be staying at the Comfort Inn in Springfield. After the conference on Saturday we will be stopping in Branson at The Landing. Lunch will be on your own and there will be time to do some shopping before we head back to Hot Springs.

Reservations begin on August 11, 2013. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required before your registration is valid. While the deposit is non-refundable it is fully transferable to another person. Deadline for reservations is October 6, 2013. The balance on registrations is also due on October 6th. Registration packets can be picked up at the Ministry desk in the foyer and they can be taken to Jennifer in the church office or given to one of the Leadership Team members (Kira Bridges, Lori Gray, Danah Allen, Becky Lee, Betty Lacy, Susan Ashmore, Brenda Gibson and Amylyn Karm). Please make your checks payable to “HSBC”. THE FIRST TEN LADIES WHO REGISTER WILL RECEIVE A FREE GIFT.

You find more information about Jennifer Rothschild and the other speakers for the conference on the attached sheet.

We are looking forward to spending the week-end with you and enjoying Christian fellowship, up-lifting and encouraging speakers, great food and lots of chocolate. If you have any questions, please call Betty Lacy 282-3131.

We All Have Emotions

We all have emotions – Betty Lacy

God shared with me this last week that He wanted me to begin at least a weekly devotional to our Joy Women’s Ministry blog.  I wasn’t sure if it was the anesthesia talking (I had cataract surgery on Tuesday) or if it was truly God who was trying to get my attention.  Well, after three days I know it was God speaking to me in a very soft voice that can get louder and more forceful when I don’t listen.
This summer our Sunday School class chose to do a video/Bible study entitled He Speaks to Me by Priscilla Shirer.  Today is the first day I have been able to actually see clearly enough to read so I have been doing ‘catch-up’ for tomorrow morning.

The lesson for this week is on emotions.  We all have emotions and it depends on whether or not we want to handle the emotions ourselves or to turn them over to God and let him do all the work.  I tend to want to do it myself and usually wind up with deeper emotions than what I started with.  Unfortunately, my family can attest to this.

During the study today the words began to leap off the page and go directly into my heart.  God is there for me to help me through and all fears, insecurities, grief and whatever else I have taken on as my ‘mantle’ for a season.  This week my precious daughter-in-law, Brittany, reminded me that insecurity and fear are choices and I have to decide not to be enslaved and ruled by these emotions.  With the help of my Heavenly Father, I can do this.  I am not alone in my emotions He is there with me and is waiting for me to ask for His help.
The following is a quote from this week’s study:  God’s promises can act as the catalyst we need to relinquish any consuming emotions.  Are you lonely?  The Lord says, “I am with you always” (Matthews 28:20).  Are you afraid? The Lord says, “My peace be with you” (John 14:27).  Are you anxious or worried?  The Lord says, “Though the mountains move and the hills shake, My love will not be removed from you (Isa. 54:10).  Are you angry and seeking revenge?  The Lord says, “Vengeance is mine.  I will repay” (Rom. 12:19).

Experiencing emotions is not wrong, letting emotions consume and control us is.  Let God’s promises show you how to think and act.

Until Next Week,
Betty Lacy

One of our members needs our prayers and our help

Hey ladies!

Some of you may know Chris and Lisa Cox at our church.  Chris has muscular dystrophy and is in a wheelchair and they have 2 small children.  Lisa is a 1st grade teacher at Oaklawn and is also a very good friend of mine.  She has been having seizures for years that have progressively become worse.  She cannot drive and has begun to lose some cognitive ability.  You can imagine the difficulties this creates when you have 2 preschool age children and a disabled husband that requires around the clock care.  Well, just when she thought things couldn't get harder, she is now having to have brain surgery.  They are hoping that by removing the area of the brain that the seizures are coming from, they can stop them.  Brain surgery though is, of course, a big deal.  Especially when you don't have a husband that can help, you have 2 small children, AND all of your family lives in California.  So, I'm hoping that her church family can all pitch in to help her and her family during this time.  They are very active in a great Sunday school class that I know will do everything they can for them but because of the amount of help they will need and the length of time, I'm trying to spread the word to others who are not in their Sunday school class that may know them and want to help.

I've created a couple of calendars for people to sign up to help on.  They are both on a website called "take them a meal" but one of them is actually for checking in on Lisa when she will be by herself.  It was just easy to use the same website to create the calendar.  She originally had told me that she would need help with Chris in the evenings but Chris has told her that he will take care of finding help for himself.  I've told her that if she ends up needing some help there as well though, to let me know.  She will have her mom here until the 22nd and then she will take the kids with her back to California until July 6th.  Depending on how she is doing, it's possible that she may need help getting them ready for daycare in the morning once they get back.  She said they have become pretty self-sufficient but she knows not to hesitate to let me know that she needs help if she realizes she's going to need it.  So, if you know them, or even don't, and would like to sign up to help, please do.  Also feel free to pass the word along to anyone that you think would be interested.

Spring Retreat

Hello, Girlfriends!
Join us as we explore the Book of Ruth

We are so excited to be planning our second ladies retreat at Shepherd of the Ozarks (SOTO) located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains in North Arkansas. The dates are April 19th – 21st and we will be staying in the same lodge as last year. The name of the lodge is the Indian Bluff Lodge. You can see a floor plan of the lodge, pictures of the lodge and the rest of the retreat area at www.shepherdoftheozarks.com.  The cost of the retreat is $175 per person and will cover the lodging, study materials, supplies, and all meals.

The deadline to sign up is Sunday, March 31st. Because we anticipate there being more that want to come this year than last though, it is IMPARATIVE that you sign up ASAP. If we don’t have more registered than last year by the first of the year, we will not reserve the second lodge (if it’s even still available) and it will become a first come, first serve basis

Looking forward to an INCREDIBLE weekend of fun, food, and fellowship with girlfriends and a time of learning with the LORD!

God Bless,
